It’s no secret how huge and expansive the MCU has become. From its humble beginnings with 2008’s Iron Man to the climax of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, then continuing through multiple TV shows and introducing more characters in more movies since, Kevin Feige and his team show no signs of slowing down any time soon. As a result, things can get a little confusing due to the amount of projects out there. Thus, this Guide to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born.
Here, Dawn of the Tapes has attempted to bring all the MCU projects together, along with other projects that have been brought into the fold since Disney began making its acquisitions, to help guide you through your Marvel Cinematic Universe education. But, before you get stuck in, there’s a few things to take note of:
- The list is in order of release, from 2008 to present. You can find other sites that will list everything in timeline/chronological order if that is what you prefer.
- The TV shows aren’t entirely necessary to watch, but it’s highly recommended as they will help a lot with understanding cameos and the wider events within the multiverse that do weave their way within the films now and again.
- Marvel Studios’s own television shows begin in Phase 4.
- Marvel Television shows are listed in their own section – most are considered as a wider part of the MCU, and some are considered standalone.
- The One-Shot mini episodes are listed separately.
- Each entry in the main MCU list comes with a DOTT verdict and rating, but these can be ignored if you wish – opinions differ, after all.
- This list is constantly updated as more films and shows are released/caught up on, as well as anything outside the main MCU being added where necessary. The main timeline is complete up to the present, but we are still adding films and shows from outside of that, e.g. the X-Men series, Deadpool series and Sony’s Spider-Man series and new Spider-Man Universe that can help any completionist with their Marvel viewing.
Right, now we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get on with the show!
p.s Watch out for those Stan Lee cameos!

Phase One (2008-2012)

Iron Man
Released: 2008
Director: Jon Favreau
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Leslie Bibb, Clark Gregg, Paul Bettany, Jon Favreau
Synopsis: Billionaire playboy Tony Stark (Downey Jr.) finds himself at the other end of his own war games when he creates the Mark I suit to escape captors, thus setting him on his journey to becoming Iron Man.
Verdict: Iron Man’s origins was a good place to kick off the MCU, even if this was before the MCU was really a thing. I used to not like this movie much at all, but it has grown on me over the years, as has Tony Stark. The plot is solid, the characters are excellent, the soundtrack/score is amazing, and the graphics have held up well. 4/5

Mid-credits scene: No
Post-credits scene: Yes

The Incredible Hulk
Released: 2008
Director: Louis Leterrier
Cast: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell
Synopsis: After an experiment gone wrong, Bruce Banner (Norton) is on the hunt for a cure to the other guy within him, but with his ex-girlfriend’s military sargeant father on his tail and continuing to experiment, it’s not long before Banner has to unleash the Hulk to stop something worse..
Verdict: After 2003’s non-MCU-related Hulk, people are familiar with the origins of the green guy, so it was a good shout to play on the next step in Banner’s life, that of trying to ‘cure’ himself. Norton gives a great performance and the villains of the story are strong enough to recur at some point in the MCU. 3/5
Pre-credits scene: Yes
Mid-credits scene: No
Post-credits scene: No

Iron Man 2
Released: 2010
Director: Jon Favreau
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Samuel L. Jackson
Synopsis: Tony Stark/Iron Man (Downey Jr.), now incredibly famous and popular, gains enemies wanting to imitate/steal his suit designs and label him a threat to US citizens. He is also being courted by Nick Fury (Jackson) to join the Avengers Initiative.
Verdict: I don’t know if the quality of this film had anything to do with apparent rewrites to Justin Theroux’s screenplay, but this sequel doesn’t really progress Tony’s/Iron Man’s story arc. We have Nick Fury pushing his agenda, which furthers the Avengers arc, but there doesn’t seem to be any real character development for anyone bar Pepper Potts. 3/5

Post-credits scene: Yes

Thor
Released: 2011
Director: Kenneth Branagh
Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Idris Elba
Synopsis: Thor (Hemsworth) is exiled to Earth from Asgard by his father Odin (Hopkins) for almost starting a war. He meets scientist Jane Foster (Portman) who helps him adjust until his brother Loki (Hiddleston) attempts to stop him from returning as heir to the throne of Asgard.
Verdict: A good introduction to the character of Thor that sets him and other characters up for being integral pieces in the MCU. It has hints of comedy, but it’s clear that Branagh kept himself back within his own signature classical style, leaving it a little bland at times, but there’s plenty of action and intrigue to make it a sturdy film. 3/5
Pre-credits scene: No
Mid-credits scene: No
Post-credits scene: Yes

Captain American: The First Avenger
Released: 2011
Director: Joe Johnston
Cast: Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Stanely Tucci, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough
Synopsis: In 1942, Steve Rogers (Evans) is recruited for the super-soldier program in order to enlist. He goes from a small sickly man to the hero Captain America, but soon finds himself up against supernatural forces.
Verdict: Hot on the heels of Thor, we meet our sixth (including Black Widow in Iron Man 2 and Hawkeye in Thor) OG Avenger, aka, America’s Ass™. With tons of action, drama, and a dash of romance, there’s a lot to enjoy, even if the Skinny Steve VFX aren’t aging that well. If you’re new to the MCU, pay particular attention to that super-soldier serum. And, er, Hail Hydra? 4/5
Pre-credits scene: No

Post-credits scene: Yes

Avengers Assemble (US: The Avengers)
Released: 2012
Director: Joss Whedon
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Clark Gregg, Stellan Skarsgård
Synopsis: Nick Fury (Jackson) finally gets his Avengers team together, and they must battle with other dimensional forces that are under the command of Loki (Hiddleston) while keeping cordial with each other.
Verdict: Our first taste of the team we will come to love, this is every bit the action film that fans want/wanted it to be for the team’s first foray. It’s also the first time we hear that excellent Avengers theme, and we get glimpses of what’s to come. Ultimately, this film is just the definition of cool. Shawarma, anyone? 4/5

Verdict:
Pre-credits scene: No
Mid-credits scene: No

Black Panther
Released: 2018
Director: Ryan Coogler
Cast: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Forest Whitaker, Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis
Synopsis: After the events of Captain America: Civil War, Prince T’Challa (Boseman) inherits the throne of Wakanda, an African city hidden away from the rest of the world due to keeping others from discovering vibranium, the strongest (fictional) metal in the world, but T’Challa’s inheritance doesn’t come without challenge, both from within Wakanda and without.
Verdict: This film has a purity that other Marvel films lack, a purity that shall likely be the reason people will continue to revisit it for many years to come. It rejuvenated the MCU (not that it really needed it) and opened it up to more diversity and inclusion (that was sorely needed). 5/5

Ant-Man and the Wasp

With Scott as Ant-Man and Hope taking on her mother’s mantle as the Wasp, they must fight off their foes whilst trying to rescue Janet.
Verdict: This film doesn’t quite reach the same level of austerity as other Marvel movies of late, and while it doesn’t have the depth of story that other larger Marvel movies may have and perhaps throws too many obstacles in the way of the heroes, it’s a welcome breather overall in its aspects of lightheartedness and character relationships. 3/5

Captain Marvel
Released: 2019

Synopsis: In 1995, Vers (Brie Larson) is a Kree soldier fighting against the Skrulls, a race that are hell-bent on wiping out the Kree. During a rescue mission, Vers is captured by the Skrulls, eventually breaking free and heading to Earth, meeting Nick Fury (Jackson) and gaining his trust. Together they embark on their own mission to find out exactly who Vers is and where she came from.
Verdict: As an introduction to the character, Captain Marvel is an entertaining and informative film, however it stands weaker overall in its story in general and in comparison to other MCU films. 3/5

Avengers: Endgame
Released: 2019
Director: Anthony and Joe Russo
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Brie Larson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Tessa Thompson, Evangeline Lilly, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston (BASICALLY EVERYONE OKAY)
Synopsis: The remaining Avengers reconvene with other characters to work on a way to bring back everyone lost in the Blip and take down Thanos once and for all.
Verdict: The Russo brothers, the writers, Marvel Studios, the cast and all involved have been well aware of the impact the MCU has had up until now, and so although there would have been tremendous pressure to get this film right, it has so obviously been completed with the love and care expected from people who are truly fans themselves and who also want to see this arc completed correctly. 5/5

Spider-Man: Far From Home
Released: 2019
Director: Jon Watts
Cast: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, Angourie Rice, Tony Revolori, Remy Hii, Cobie Smulders, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove
Synopsis: Eight months post-Endgame, and five years post-blip, Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Holland) goes on a field trip to Europe that includes his best friend Ned (Batalon) and his crush MJ (Zendaya). The trip is very quickly interrupted when Peter is called upon to assist newcomer Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Gyllenhaal) in defeating Hellfire, the fourth of the Elementals (big bads that use the elements to destroy everything around them). Peter soon discovers that not all is what it seems.
Verdict: FFH attempts to replicate what worked for Homecoming, and for the most part it succeeds in doing so, however the humour is a little off at times and Mysterio is saved from being a lacklustre villain by Gyllenhaal’s performance. 4/5

Introduction of MCU Television Shows
From here onwards, many MCU movies are interspersed with television shows, and they came at just the right time when Covid had hit and many were stuck and/or isolated at home. Escapism wasn’t only wanted, it was needed. You don’t necessarily need to watch these shows to continue with the movies, however they do interweave at times and provide more context around certain characters. Some also introduce new characters that then feature in films after the shows have aired.
Phase Four (2021-2022)

WandaVision (TV show)
Released: 2021
Director: Matt Shakman
Cast: Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Debra Jo Rupp, Fred Melamed, Kathryn Hahn, Teyonah Parris, Randall Park, Kat Dennings, Evan Peters
Synopsis: Wanda Maximoff (Olsen) lives in a world where she and Vision (Bettany) live their lives like a sitcom, unaware of how her actions are affecting the real world.
Verdict: An excellent show that kicks off the Multiverse saga and introduces a longer format for Marvel stories that delves deeper into Wanda’s state of mind. It’s a great bridge between films that makes use of thus-far under-used characters and sets some up for future cinematic/television appearances, all while broadening Wanda’s character. 5/5
Mid-credits scenes: Episodes 7, 8, 9
Post-credits scenes: Episode 9

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TV show)
Released: 2021
Director: Kari Skogland
Cast: Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Wyatt Russell, Erin Kellyman, Danny Ramirez, Georges St-Pierre, Adepero Oduye, Don Cheadle, Daniel Brühl, Emily VanCamp, Florence Kasumba, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Synopsis: As the U.S government appoints a new Captain America, Sam Wilson (Mackie), aka the Falcon, comes up against the Flag Smashers, a terrorist group/resistance fighters (depending on what side you’re on), along with old ‘pal’ Bucky Barnes (Stan), aka the Winter Soldier. Sam tries to balance his personal and professional lives while Bucky attempts to make amends for his wrongdoings when under Hydra control.
Verdict: On first watch this show was hard to digest purely because it really piled on the heavy themes, but on a second go-through it was easier to understand and appreciate for its depth. It’s a worthy precursor to Sam’s taking on of the Cap mantle, as it delves into the pros and cons not just of becoming Captain America, but a Black Captain America.
Mid-credits scenes: No
Post-credits scenes: Episodes 5, 6

Loki Season 1 (TV show)
Released: 2021
Director: Kate Herron
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Sasha Lane, Jack Veal, DeObia Oparei, Richard E. Grant, Jonathan Majors
Synopsis: When Loki (Hiddleston) gets up to more potentially-world-ending mischief, he finds himself at the mercy of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) when he unknowingly creates an alternate timeline and a ‘variant’ of himself that cannot be allowed to exist.
Verdict: A timey-wimey mish mash of things that does require focus but sets up some aspects of the future of the MCU and explains why we can still have characters that have apparently died in the main timeline, also known as the ‘sacred’ timeline. A clever way to keep fan favourites in the franchise, and a fun way to get to know Loki better. 4/5
Mid-credits scenes: No
Post-credits sceness: Episodes 4, 6

Black Widow
Released: 2021
Director: Cate Shortland
Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Rachel Weisz, Ray Winstone
Synopsis: Black Widow sees Natasha (Johansson) on the run post-Captain America: Civil War and coming face to face with her past. She is reunited with her surrogate sister, Yelena (Pugh), and they track down their surrogate father, Alexei (Harbour), who in turn tells them to find their surrogate mother, Melina (Weisz), if they want to know the whereabouts of Dreykov (Winstone), the creator of the Red Room where young girls are trained to be relentless assassins named Widows.
Verdict: A solid story for Natasha that’s been a long time coming (with an interesting backstory), the film features strong characters with decent action and drama, though a weaker antagonist than most MCU films boast. 3.5/5
Pre-credits scene: No
Mid-credits scene: No
Post-credits scene: Yes

What If…? Season 1 (TV show)
Released: 2021
Synopsis: After the knowledge that multiple timelines exist, this series explores alternate stories that branch off from the sacred timeline depending on the decisions made by certain characters, and consists of individual episodes.
Verdict: This first series introduces some interesting questions and answers that could crop up over the course of the MCU’s releases, with some ideas being more entertaining than others, and is overall an entertaining romp around the multiverse. 4/5
Mid-credits scenes: Episode 9
Post-credits scenes: No

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Released: 2021
Director: Destin Daniel Cretton
Cast: Simu Liu, Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang, Michelle Yeoh, Ben Kingsley
Synopsis: Shang-Chi (Liu) is roped back into his estranged father’s world when Xu Wenwu (Leung) comes looking for Shang-Chi and his sister, Xialing (Zhang). After discovering exactly what Wenwu has planned, Shang-Chi must fight his emotional ties to his father to prevent him from destroying the world.
Verdict: Action-packed, perhaps too much so due to its influences from classic kung-fu movies, Shang-Chi features dialogue-heavy scenes to balance out the action and give it some heart and depth, doing a good job of its dysfunctional-family-orientated plot. 3.5/5
Pre-credits scene: No
Mid-credits scene: Yes
Post-credits scene: Yes

Eternals
Released: 2021
Director: Chloé Zhao
Cast: Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Ma Dong-seok, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Kit Harrington
Synopsis: After protecting Earth from Deviants 5000 years ago, the Eternals disperse across the globe, trying to find new purposes. In 2021, Sersi (Chan), her boyfriend Dane (Harrington) and fellow Eternal Sprite (McHugh) are attacked by a Deviant, forcing Sersi to bring the Eternals back together to drive the Deviants away once again.
Verdict: A decent ride that sets up a lot for what’s to come, but nothing to get too hyped about. Certain aspects are exciting, such as the way the characters are catalysts for many of our well-known myths and legends, but story-wise it’s not got the same feel or cohesion to it as other MCU ensembles. 3/5

Hawkeye (TV show)
Released: 2021
Directors: Rhys Thomas/Bert & Bertie
Cast: Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, Fra Fee, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga, Alaqua Cox, Zahn McClarnon, Florence Pugh, Vincent D’Onofrio
Synopsis: Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye (Renner), attempts to live a more normal life after everyone returns post-Blip, but his actions during the Blip soon catch up with him when he meets archer and wannabe hero Kate Bishop (Steinfeld).
Verdict: Hawkeye deserved his own little outing, and this was a good one. Steinfeld brings the heart and humour where Renner brings the experience and action, culminating in an exciting adventure through New York City at Christmas time.
Mid-credits scenes: Episode 6
Post-credits scenes: No

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Released: 2021
Director: Jon Watts
Cast: Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Willem Dafoe, Rhys Ifans, Thomas Haden Church, J.K. Simmons
Synopsis: After the reveal of his identity, Peter (Holland) turns to Doctor Strange (Cumberbatch) for help in erasing everyones’ memories, but it all comes at a cost.
Verdict: Peter becomes more humanised in his dealings with his friends in this instalment, and learns to deal with the wider public and villains from the Multiverse. In other words, he’s growing up and learning how to deal with the consequences of his actions. 4/5

Moon Knight (TV show)
Released: 2022
Directors: Mohamed Diab/Justin Benson/Aaron Moorhead
Cast: Oscar Isaac, May Calamawy, Karim El Hakim, F. Murray Abraham, Ethan Hawke, Ann Akinjirin, David Ganly, Khalid Abdalla, Gaspard Ulliel, Sofia Danu
Synopsis: Steven/Marc/Jake (Isaac), a man with multiple personalities inhabiting one body, finds himself the avatar of the Egyptian god Khonshu (voiced by Abraham) and on a mission to stop Khonshu’s previous avatar from raising the goddess Ammit (Danu) so she can pass judgement on all of humanity.
Verdict: The MCU has played around with Norse gods and various deities of human history, and now they bring Egyptian gods into the fold. It’s not the most interesting of the MCU television shows so far, but Isaac puts in an excellent performance (or rather, multiple performances) and his human character is what keeps things interesting for the most part. 3/5
Mid-credits scenes: Episode 6
Post-credits scenes: No

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Released: 2022
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor

Verdict: The storyline is genuinely interesting, exploring other universes and how each world’s Doctor Strange is perceived, and of course the character of Stephen Strange discovering more about himself and his power. 4/5

Post-credits scene: Yes

Ms Marvel (TV show)
Released: 2022
Directors: Adil & Bilall/Meera Menon/Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy
Cast: Iman Vellani, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Laurel Marsden, Azhar Usman, Rish Shah, Arian Moayed
Synopsis: Teenager and Captain-Marvel-obsessed Kamala (Vellani) suddenly gains powers of her own and discovers more than she realises when she delves into her family’s history.
Verdict: A bright, colourful entry that gives something for younger MCU fans to relate to, Ms. Marvel is its own pocket of fun. Kamala is a great character, however some of the humour may feel repetitive and a little patronising to teens at times. 3/5
Mid-credits scenes: Episode 6, 9
Post-credits scenes: No

Thor: Love and Thunder
Released: 2022
Director: Taika Waititi
Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander
Synopsis: Thor (Hemsworth) receives a distress call from Sif (Alexander), and learns that there is a new villain on the rise, named Gorr (Bale), whose next target is New Asgard. In his fight against Gorr, Thor is reunited with his one-time love, Jane Foster (Portman). Jane is called by Mjölnir to take up the mantle of Mighty Thor and together, with the help of New Asgard’s king Valkyrie (Thompson), and old friend Korg (Waititi), they work through their issues to stop Gorr.
Verdict: This film doesn’t exactly bring much new to the universe’s ever-growing table, but there’s potential for new characters to play a larger part in the future. Waititi wrote a great story and stayed true to the characters, but he could have done with reeling in the pomp and pageantry just a tad. 3/5

Released: 2022
Director: Kirsten Lepore
Cast: Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Jeffrey Wright
Synopsis: A series of five five-minute animated shorts that follow baby Groot (Diesel) on his bite-sized adventures.
Verdict: I am Groot, I am Groot, I. Am. GROOT. 5/5

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (TV show)
Released: 2022
Director: Kat Coiro/Anu Valia
Cast: Tatiana Maslany, Jameela Jamil, Ginger Gonzaga, Mark Ruffalo, Josh Segarra, Mark Linn-Baker, Tess Malis Kincaid, Tim Roth, Megan Thee Stallion, Benedict Wong, Charlie Cox
Synopsis: Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk (Maslany), cousin of Bruce Banner, aka Hulk (Ruffalo), tries to navigate her life as a lawyer for superhumans while also being one herself.
Verdict: One for the women in their 30s while also being entertaining for all, She-Hulk has excellent humour, a sturdy storyline and has some fun ’90s sitcom vibes to it. 4/5
Mid-credits scenes: Episode 1,2,3,4, 9

Werewolf by Night (TV special)
Released: 2022
Director: Michaek Giacchino
Cast: Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris
Synopsis: Presented in the classic black-and-white horror style (with a colourised version released in 2023), a group of monster hunters gather to compete for possession of the powerful Bloodstone, not knowing that a monster already walks among them.
Verdict: While it certainly does a good job of evoking classis horror films, particularly the likes of The Wolf Man, this special struggles to keep things interesting and doesn’t quite manage to meld the modern graphics with the classic style. 3/5

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (TV special)
Released: 2022
Director: James Gunn
Cast: Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Old 97’s, Michael Rooker, Kevin Bacon
Synopsis: Drax (Bautista) and Mantis (Klementieff) set out to give Peter (Pratt) an epic Christmas by bringing him Kevin Bacon (playing himself).
Verdict: Drax and Mantis are a cute and funny duo that pull off great chemistry, making this a nice little Christmas treat. 3.5/5

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Released: 2022
Director: Ryan Coogler
Cast: Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Synopsis: After the death of T’Challa (and tragically Chadwick Boseman in real life), the fight to protect Wakanda and its biggest and most precious resource, Vibranium, falls to his sister, Shuri (Wright).
Verdict: Just as involving and action-packed with intricate set pieces and costumes that allow it to stand out uniquely within the MCU, this movie pays emotional tribute to both Boseman and T’Challa that will leave you weeping, but it also manages to keep the spirit alive and move the story along in a meaningful and entertaining way. 4/5

Phase Five (2023-2025)

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Released: 2023
Director: Peyton Reed
Cast: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors, Bill Murray, Katy M. O’Brian
Synopsis:
Verdict: Quantumania is an average action film that heavily relies on CGI, something that clearly meant a lot of invisible/green screen acting for the cast, and also meant the imaginations of the visual creatives could go wild, and go wild they did, with an array of creatures and domains in the Quantum Realm. At times it’s a lot to take in and comes across as a bit too silly, but for some audiences that will be part of its charm. 3/5

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
Released: 2023
Director: James Gunn
Cast: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chukwudi Iwuji, Sean Gunn, Maria Bakalova, Elizabeth Debicki, Will Poulter, Linda Cardellini, Asim Chaudry, Mikaela Hoover, Nico Santos, Sylvester Stallone, Nathan Fillion
Synopsis: The Guardians come under attack by Adam Warlock (Poulter), and in the ensuing fight, Rocket (Cooper), is gravely injured. His fellow Guardians come to realise his recovery is not straightforward, and thus they embark on a mission to find Rocket’s origins, and in doing so save the universe from yet another madman who believes he is doing something for the good of all in existence.
Verdict: Gunn has done an epic job of balancing everything through the story and the dialogue and making us fall in love even more with these characters. He brought the best out of each one, reluctantly for some of them, and it truly is a good final chapter for the Guardians of the Galaxy as we have known them. 4/5

Secret Invasion (TV show)
Released: 2023
Director: Ali Selim
Cast: Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Dormer, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Don Cheadle
Synopsis: Nick Fury (Jackson) teams up with Talos (Mendelsohn), a Skrull, to uncover a plan by the Skrulls to take over the Earth.
Verdict: This is one of those instances where expanding on a particular aspect of the MCU makes sense. Seeing what happens when the Skrulls are (supposedly temporarily) given sanctuary on Earth makes for some interesting political and moralistic themes. It’s also good to see Nick Fury continue his adventures as one of the more popular MCU characters, and it’s good that there are no major changes for him, as it means this show is not imperative viewing to keep up with the MCU. 4/5

Loki Season 2 (TV show)

The Marvels
Released: 2023
Director: Nia DaCosta
Cast: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Samuel L. Jackson, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, Park Seo-Jun, Gary Lewis
Synopsis: Kamala Khan/Miss Marvel (Vellani) is suddenly dragged into a war between Kree leader, Dar-Benn (Ashton), and Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Larson). When Monica Rambeau (Parris) investigates an anomaly in a jump-point near the S.A.B.E.R space station, she, Carol and Kamala end up in a quantum entanglement, causing them to switch places if they use their powers at the same time. To fix this, as well as Dar-Benn’s hellbent revenge plot, they must learn to work together as a team.
Verdict: The bones of the story itself present nothing particularly new, and some of the plot devices actually seem to end up more like MacGuffins, but ultimately what was broken could have easily been fixed without the entire plot of the movie happening. There are some fun moments, and some intense yet satisfying action sequences, but also some strange moments that seem out of place. 3/5

What If…? Season 2 (TV show)
Released: 2023

Director: Shaun Levy
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Stefan Kapicic, Peggy the Ugliest Dog in Britain
Synopsis: Six years after being refused membership by the Avengers in another timeline, Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool (Reynolds), is recruited by the TVA (the Time Variance Authority). Deadpool manages to end up pissing off a Logan/Wolverine (Jackman) from another timeline, one desperately in need of redemption. Reluctantly, Wolverine teams up with Deadpool to defeat a common enemy that threatens multiple timelines, familiar faces, and old friends.
Verdict: A Deadpool movie never claims to be more than what it is, and that’s a bucket full of foul language, dirty jokes, incredible puns and an anti-hero we love to love. It’s a welcome breath of fresh air within the MCU, and it’s also extremely satisfying to see Deadpool make his debut in the MCU and make himself at home. 4/5

Agatha All Along (TV show)
Released: 2024
Directors: Jac Schaeffer/Rachel Goldberg/Gandja Monteiro

Synopsis: After her shenanigans in WandaVision, Agatha Harkness (Hahn) returns in her own series that explores her background as she assists a teenager who wants to embark on the trials of the Witches’ Road.
Verdict: This series has its moments, and its always interesting to see how a villainous character became who they were, but it gets a little monotonous at times (and the lighting could have been turned up a notch). 3/5
Mid-credits scenes: No
Post-credits scenes: No

What If…? Season 3 (TV show)
Released: 2024
Synopsis: The final season of the multiverse-spanning saga presents more fascinating and at times hilarious (with episode 4 being a particular standout) and brings things to a head with the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright).

Captain America: Brave New World
Released: 2025
Director: Julius Onah
Cast: Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Giancarlo Esposito, Xosha Roquemore, Takehiro Hira, Sebastian Stan
Synopsis: When a Celestial appears in the Indian Ocean, negotiations with world leaders, led mainly by the newly appointed US President Thaddeus Ross (Ford), are thwarted when villain Samuel Sterns (Nelson) returns to cause havoc. Sam Wilson (Mackie), aka Captain America, is called upon to keep the peace, along with the new Falcon, Joaquin Torres (Ramirez), as his wingman. However, things begin to heat up as it comes to light just how much control Sterns actually has over the military and the government.
Verdict: Essentially, Brave New World could have fit in as a finale episode to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. There isn’t anything new to grab on to, and other than mentions of a future Avengers team, it doesn’t leave us with much to look forward to. It has its moments that are entertaining and visually engaging, but its lack of story and development is concerning for the future of the character. 3/5

Synopsis: A revival/continuation of the previous Marvel Television series, Daredevil brings back blind attorney Matt Murdock (Cox) as he continues his fight against Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin (D’Onofrio), though this time less as a masked hero and more as his day job allows.
Verdict: Coming soon
Mid-credits scenes: Coming soon
Post-credits scenes: Coming soon

Thunderbolts*
Released: 2025
Director: Jake Schreier
Cast: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Geraldine Viswanathan, Olga Kurylenko
Synopsis: Yelena Belova (Pugh) finds herself pitted against other contracted killers, including John Walker, aka former Captain America, now dubbed U.S Agent (Russell), Ava Starr, aka Ghost (John-Kamen), and Antonia Dreykov, aka Taskmaster (Kurylenko), all ordered to destroy each other. In turn, they discover someone else is present: a mysterious man named Bob (Pullman). After Bob is captured, a secret operation comes to light, causing the anti-heroes to form a team along with Yelena’s adoptive father Alexei Shostakov, aka Red Guardian (Harbour), and James “Bucky” Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier (Stan).
Verdict: As is usual for an MCU film, it is energetic and filled with moments that fans will enjoy, but also boasts a story that goes deeper than just overt action, something the MCU doesn’t always manage to do well. In many ways, it makes aspects of the story and the characters highly relatable, even if the darkness they experience is a little on the nose at times. 3.5/5
